On this drive, the Performing Musicians Employers' Association of Nigeria(PMAN) was established in 1984, founded by Christy Essien Igbokwe and Sunny Okosun.
The Performing Musicians Employers` Association of Nigeria (PMAN) was established as a response to the growing need for a unified body that would represent, protect, and promote the interests of musicians and entertainment professionals across Nigeria. Before the formation of PMAN, many artists operated independently without organized representation, industry structure, or professional protection. PMAN emerged as a platform to unite entertainers under one recognized association capable of advocating for musicians’ rights, welfare, and career growth.
Throughout its journey, PMAN has played a significant role in supporting the growth and development of the Nigerian music industry. The association has contributed to talent discovery, artist promotion, entertainment events, industry networking, and creative empowerment initiatives. PMAN has provided a platform where upcoming artists can connect with experienced professionals and where industry stakeholders can collaborate for collective growth.
One of the major aspects of PMAN`s journey has been its dedication to artist welfare, representation, and protection. The association has consistently advocated for the rights of musicians, encouraging professionalism and fair treatment within the entertainment industry. PMAN has also promoted awareness about copyright protection, royalties, and intellectual property rights to help artists better understand the value of their creative works.
The entertainment industry is rapidly evolving through technology, streaming services, social media, and digital promotion. PMAN is gradually embracing this digital transformation by supporting online visibility, digital branding, and partnerships with entertainment technology platforms. This transition creates new opportunities for musicians to distribute their music globally, engage audiences directly, and generate revenue through digital channels.
